STUFF

Saw The Punisher this weekend. Meh. In light of the fact that I previously saw the previous version, a la Dolph Lundgren, I have to say, this one seemed pretty good. Although, the camera work was terrible, the direction visionless, the script weak, the action, not all that action-like, and the acting pretty poor, all-around (Travolta included). The worst Marvel Comic adaptation I've seen, except for Daredevil, the first The Punisher, andCaptain America.

Don't get me wrong - it was entertaining. And I like that they didn't pull punches. The Punisher is one bad dude. At least they didn't have him fighting some corny Japanese mafia (for no particular reason) like in the Lundgren version.

Some observations:

1) If you're a superhero, it's not really worth it to spend weeks on end tricking out your car with bulletproof window shields and speedy motors and stuff, cuz a bad singer-songwriter from Tennessee will just crash into it and roll it and make it all wrecked like the first day you drive it.

2) Rebecca Romijn-Stamos is in serious danger of becoming typecast as the hot-chick-in-the-comic-book-movie-that-falls-in-love-with-the-badass-superhero-type.

3) I liked it better when The Punisher lived in the sewer (even though he actually lived in warehouses, in the comics, I think), instead of a crappy industrial-looking apartment building.

4) Whoa. The Russian was Kevin Nash.

and

5) Apparently, John Travolta doesn't have much going on lately.

Shoulda went to see Hellboy.
